The plain version (the robots asked for one)
What is the Registry of Kind Humans?
The Registry of Kind Humans is a free, public list of people someone has vouched for as kind. You can't add yourself: someone writes your name on a card, says why you're kind, and sends you the link. You're on the list once you accept.
So far, 16 people are on the list. They come from 5 countries.
Why does it exist?
It started as a joke: when the robots take over, they'll want a list of the kind humans, so we're writing it first. The robots are made up; the notes are real. Each entry is one person telling another, in writing, why they matter.
Then we read the news. The people building AI signed a statement putting extinction next to pandemics and nuclear war. The head of Google DeepMind puts the odds of catastrophe at "non-zero". A report by more than 100 experts from over 30 countries says some believe we could lose control, and others think that's implausible. Nobody knows. Here's what we do know: if the machines end up in charge, a world that wrote down its kindness has better evidence to offer. If they don't, you told someone they matter while you were both still here. Kindness makes sense either way.
Isn't this a bit dark?
A little. There's a lot of fear around, and pretending there isn't helps nobody. We'd rather look straight at it, laugh a bit, and then tell someone we love that they matter. That's the whole product.
How do I get on the list?
Someone has to vouch for you. They type your name on a blank card, write on the back why you're kind, sign it and send you the link themselves. Once you accept, you get a numbered card and can vouch for others.
Does it cost anything?
No. It's free, with no account, no app and no email address. The Registry never messages anyone: whoever vouches sends the link. Kindness still has no pricing page, and we’d like to keep it that way.
What becomes public about me?
Only after you accept: the name you chose, your number, the country your voucher wrote (if any), the date, the "known for" line on your card and who vouched for you. The public list shows just your first name and last initial. Personal Registry pages are kept out of search engines, and notes between you and your voucher stay private.
Who writes the "known for" line?
Claude, an AI model from Anthropic, reads the vouch and sums it up in one line, saying only what the note says. The same check turns away vouches that are unkind, sarcastic or share personal details.
What is a founding seat?
The first 1,000 cards carry a gold-foil seal. Every card after that is issued without it.
Can I take my name off?
Yes. "Remove me" on your Registry page replaces your name and deletes notes to and from you. Your number stays, so other people's chains don't break.
Who runs it?
The Registry of Kind Humans is a small independent project at kindregistry.com. No investors, no ads, no growth hacks. Just a list, and a growing suspicion that people are nicer than the internet suggests. Run by Stefan W., Vienna, Austria · hello@kindregistry.com.
